The Warped Vision - CDC Experience, Mumbai, 2024
Most retail spaces are designed for clarity. Garments are placed to be seen quickly, understood instantly, and moved past just as fast.
The Warped Vision chose to slow that instinct down.
Created as part of Warping Theories’ Spring/Summer 2024 promotional campaign, The Warped Vision was a spatial installation that reimagined how a collection could be viewed. Instead of presenting garments through traditional displays, the installation introduced warped glass as a mediating layer, subtly altering perception while preserving form.
The effect was immediate but restrained. Shapes appeared familiar yet shifted, encouraging viewers to adjust their position, move closer, or step back. The act of looking became active rather than automatic.
The structure drew from Distinct Twines, the conceptual language behind the S/S 24 collection. Simplified arches and linear construction informed the installation’s framework, echoing the collection’s architectural clarity. Within this order, distortion was introduced as a deliberate interruption, creating tension between structure and fluidity.
Garments were arranged in layered compositions, intersecting across planes of glass and frame. As viewers moved through the space, reflections overlapped, silhouettes fragmented, and forms reassembled. No single viewpoint offered a complete image. The installation revealed itself gradually, shifting with movement and perspective.
Displayed at CDC Experience, Mumbai, for three weeks, The Warped Vision functioned as more than a visual statement. It created a different rhythm of engagement. Visitors were encouraged to spend time with the collection, to observe how design holds its integrity even when perception is altered.
Rather than overwhelming the garments, the installation reinforced their construction. The warped surfaces highlighted seams, proportions, and lines, drawing attention back to structure and intent.
The Warped Vision did not attempt to explain the collection. It created conditions for reflection. By introducing distortion without chaos, it offered a considered way to experience S/S 24—one that mirrored Warping Theories’ ongoing interest in form, restraint, and rethinking familiar systems.
In doing so, the installation reminded viewers that sometimes, seeing clearly requires looking differently.
